Liante Salice Salentino DOC 2007

Castello Monaci

"Liante" is the "wind of the Levant" which gusts throughout the Adriatic region.

Terroir: Negramaro and Malvasia Nera di Lecce are sourced from estate vineyards surrounding the 16th century winery.

Vinification: Grapes are hand-harvested before dawn to avoid exposure to the hot sun. The Negroamaro ripens first; typically in early September, followed by the Malvasia up to two weeks later. The grapes are macerated and fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks follow by 6 months in the cellar where 25% the wine will rest in French oak and the remainder in stainless steel. 50,000 bottles produced.

A ripe, darkly concentrated blend of negroamaro (80%) and malvasia nera (20%), this balances flavors of dark plum and black cherry with a savory mushroom, earthiness. Its a big wine, for braised brisket.

Possesses an intriguing array of dark red fruit, sweet herbs and licorice in a round, expansive style. Pretty notes of tobacco linger on the long finish. This too, is an outstanding value.
