Liante Salice Salentino DOC 2012

Castello Monaci

"Liante" is the "wind of the Levant" which gusts throughout the Adriatic region.

Terroir: Negramaro and Malvasia Nera di Lecce are sourced from estate vineyards surrounding the 16th century winery.

Vinification: Grapes are hand-harvested before dawn to avoid exposure to the hot sun. The Negroamaro ripens first; typically in early September, followed by the Malvasia up to two weeks later. The grapes are macerated and fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks follow by 6 months in the cellar where 25% the wine will rest in French oak and the remainder in stainless steel. 50,000 bottles produced.

"The very likable 2012 Salice Salentino Liante boasts a bold and expressive style with Indian spice, dark fruit and smoked bacon. There's a slightly bitter tannic bite at the back and a hard edge that works well against the fleshy nature of the Negroamaro grape. Sun-soaked and ripe, this cheerful wine would pair with spicy chorizo pizza."
