Pure Brut

Champagne Pol Roger

2007 brought the release of two extensions to the Pol Roger line up; Pure and Rich.

Vinification Pure Brut is a zero dosage Champagne made with equal parts Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Meunier and aged for 3 years in cellar prior to release.

This "pure" expression of terroir and house style results in a wine of raging acidity, clean racy fruit and firm structure. Simply prepared seafood dishes are a natural for this wines driving acidity.

Additional Information

"The golden color, dense and brilliant, is shot through with thousands of bubbles.
The fresh and lively nose expresses a fine, complex register of cloves and roses, developing into hints of bread crumbs, yeast and citrus fruit.
In the mouth, the attack is fine and straight as an arrow, surprising after the mature, concentrated nose. This firm texture acts like a carving, resulting in a sumptuous wine that is fine and well-structured. The aromas of honey and clove come through with subtlety, giving the wine extra depth and contributing to its good length."

This producer gives this style of bone-dry Champagne just the right bottle aging to allow it soften and fill out with ripe fruit. Of course, it still has crispness as well as a tight mineral texture. Together with the fruit, the elements are balanced, right in place, giving a wine that is ready to drink.

"Pol Roger's brightly colored, white-golden NV Pure Extra Brut is an undosed blend of equal parts of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier that has been aged four years on the lees. This excellent sparkling wine offers a pure, fresh, precise and yeasty bouquet of white fruits intertwined with lemon aromas, some notes of freshly baked rye bread and very subtle smoky flavors (although the wine has never seen any oak). The mousse is as fine and delicate as you can expect from a Pol Roger, and so is the complexity and refined elegance of this Champagne; it is is truly dry, straight and fresh, but also intense, firmly structured and reveals a nice iodine flavor in the long finish. This wine is as subtle as it is complex, and you should give it a second chance if you tend to underrate the first sip. The finish is really remarkable in its tightness, length and purity. Try it with shellfish!"

" Light yellow-gold. Aromas of candied lime, green apple and jasmine expand with aeration, picking up notes of tarragon, ginger and fresh fig. Dry, tightly wound citrus and orchard fruit flavors are underscored by a chalky mineral quality that gains strength on the back half. Finishes dry but broad and fleshy, leaving a gentle floral note behind."

"(made from one-third each of chardonnay, pinot noir and pinot meunier, with no dosage; L12791848J): Pale gold. Minerals, lemon rind, green apple and white pepper aromas show very good clarity. Racy, somewhat austere and sharply focused, with vibrant citrus fruit flavors leavened by subtle lees and smoke notes. Finishes tight and long, with nervy acidity and lingering spiciness. "

"A wonderfully elegant very pretty nose of citrus, brioche and floral nuances gives way to robust flavors that possess a borderline aggressive effervescence. There is a real sense of vibrancy here that is enhanced by the clean, crisp and lightly citrus-infused finish that displays just a hint of bitterness that good Champagne sometimes does."

"Lots of yeast on the nose is followed by a real rush of dried lemon and orange peels, over a deep base of toasty brioche and crisp apple fruit. Soft and rich in the mouth, this is dry with steely apple flavors and a nice hint of chalk, with some light spice tones accenting the fruit. This has a super fine mousse, doing a great job of combining depth of flavor with elegance and delicacy. Dry and tense, this is a lovely choice for caviar."

"This is Pol Roger's absolutely bone-dry Champagne. It is an exhilarating wine, pure by name and by its crisp citrus fruit and tight texture. It does have some of the typical weight of Pol Roger Champagnes, but with an edge. Let it breath in the glass for a few moments, which will bring out some extra richness."
