Pouilly Fuissé Les Combettes 2015

Chateau Fuissé

Terroir: One of the three monopole bottlings of Chateau Fuissé, the vineyard of Les Combettes covers just 4.4 acres within the village of Fuissé. Vines are densely planted in a well drained soil made up primarily of limestone, pebbles and small amounts of clay.

Vinification: The grapes are brought to the state-of-the-art winery where they are sorted and placed in barrel for fermentation. The must rests in the cellars of Chateau Fuissé for 12 months in used oak barrels (3 to 5 years old). To retain it's vibrant acidity no new oak is used in this cuvée.

The 2015 les Combettes comes from limestone soil, with a small proportion of clay, in a small valley close to a forest that tends toward greater diurnal temperature variations. It is vinified 100% in used barrels aged betweend 3 and 5 years old. It has a crisp, chalk-scented bouquet with touches of linden and shaved almond. The palate is crisp and fresh on the entry, quite linear and taut, cohesive with light touches of walut and ginger toward the persistent finish. This is one of the spicier releases from Chateau Fuisse in 2015. Anticipated maturity: 2018- 2028.

A racy style, with bracing acidity setting the pace for apple, lemon and baking spice flavors. Persistent, leaving a tactile sensation on the finish. Best from 2018 through 2024.

There is a subtle hint of exotic fruit to the peach and apricot, floral and wood-scented nose. The mouth feel of the rich medium-bodied flavors is finer still with slightly better delineation present on the vibrant, balanced and delicious finale. Again the complexity isn't at its usual level but more may very well develop with a few years of bottle age.
