Terroir: Domaine Christian Moreau Pere et Fils owns a total of 7.5 acres of this most famous of the Grand Crus of Chablis, more than any other producer in the region. Their primary parcel sits on the high portion of the hillside with a direct southeast exposure. With the steep grade, drainage of the kimmeridgien soils is quick leading to low yields of the densely planted vines.
Vinification: A sizable 40% of the final blend is aged in oak cask, although only a small percentage is new barrels. The oak contact is unobtrusive and is a testament to the sheer power of this Grand Cru.

Classic initial Chablis mustiness fades to very fresh aromas of lime blossom and minerals. Ripe, supple flavors of lemon and slate. Its citrus components are nicely evolved and juicy, as opposed to tart and biting.
Chablis is a terrific food wine (it has lots of acidity), so I love to bring it to restaurants. This grand cru, from a top producer in a great year, is wonderfully minerally and intense.
The 2005 Christian Moreau Les Clos Grand Cru Chablis is an extraordinary wine, and at $80, a truly excellent deal.

A ripe style, yet with elegant, understated power. Yellow plum, lemon, herb and mineral flavors are accented by honey as this plays out across the finish. Well-balanced and harmonious, with fine texture and length. Best from 2010 through 2022.

Slightly reduced but complex nose hints at citrus peel, white fruits, minerals, iodine and lichee. Juicy and very intense, with terrific thrust to the white peach and mineral flavors. This is quite expansive despite the fact that it was bottled just a week prior to my visit. Finishes bracing and very long, with superb delicacy. An impressively mineral style of wine for the vintage.
