Terroir: The 5.6 acre Domaine Jacques Prieur parcel of 1er Cru Champ-Pimont sits on the slope overlooking the town of Beaune just west of the village. The vineyard faces due east and produces both red and white wines of superior quality. The soils range from clay based in the lower slopes to mineral rich (iron) gravel soils further up the the slope.
Vinification: Grapes are hand harvested strictly sorted and destemmed. The must will sit on the skins for 24 hours prior to fermentation. The red and white Champ-Pimont both undergo 100% malolactic fermentation and 17 months of aging in oak barrels.
The 2008 is very exotic in both bouquet and on the palate. Layered flavors of melon, peach, flowers and vanilla spice combine in a lush yet full package.
"Discreet but not invisible wood sets off the fresh and bright nose of sliced lemon, white flower and subtle wet stone notes that are also picked up by the vibrant middle weight flavors that possess good mid-palate fat, all wrapped in a dry and mildly saline-influenced finish. Lovely and fashioned in an understated style."
