Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2007

Domaine Jacques Prieur

Terroir: The large 123 acre vineyard of Clos de Vougeot is one of the most famous terroirs in all of Burgundy. Because of it's vast size, this walled vineyard holds many micro-climates with many grade and soil variations.

Vinification: Grapes are hand harvested, strictly sorted and destemmed. The must will sit on the skins for 24 hours prior to fermentation. The wine ages for 17 months of in oak barrels deep in the cellars of Domaine Jacques Prieur.

This wine has extremely limited availability in both 750ml and 1.5l. Please consult your local FWS rep for availability.

Additional Information

"Medium-deep red. Spicy red cherry and flowers on the nose and on the palate. Serious and pure wine but extremely clenched today, with a pungent stony quality and a rather powerful tannic structure for the vintage giving the wine a very muscular impression today. Shows a strong medicinal quality and finishes with toothcoating tannins. This will need extended aging." 88-91 pts. -Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Mar.-Apr. 2009

A tannic, stony demeanor renders the Prieur 2007Clos Vougeot far less approachable and moresomber than most wines of its vintage, although ripeblackberry, cherry, beet root, and bittersweetchocolate lend an expansive richness that keeps itfrom becoming outright austere. An underlyingsense of gum-numbing tannin is abetted by theprominence of barrel characteristics. I question thelikelihood that it would merit cellaring for more than4-6 years or in hope that tannin will melt away.

This is completely different, probably as much due to the fact that it has not yet been bottled as the nose is quite grapey even though its fresh and earthy. The rich, sappy, serious and full-bodied flavors that are underpinned by dense but relatively fine tannins and on the youthfully austere finish where there is an obvious touch of warmth.
