Meursault 1er Cru Santenots 2011

Domaine Jacques Prieur

Terroir: Meursault 1er Cru Santenots sits on the northern boundary of the Meursault appellation. Domaine Jacques Prieur owns approximately 1/2 an acre of this vineyard. This is an extremely unique vineyard as producers are able to produce both white Meursault 1er Cru or red Volnay 1er Cru from the same parcel. The vines face almost due east and the soil is heavy in nature, primarily clay and silt.

Vinification: Grapes are hand harvested, strictly sorted and destemmed. The must will sit on the skins for 12 hours prior to fermentation. The wine ages for 17 months of in oak barrels deep in the cellars of Domaine Jacques Prieur.

"A smooth texture sets the stage for lanolin, apple, vanilla and hazelnut flavors in this rich white, which offers good acidity, lending harmony and drive to the finish. Drink now through 2022."

An overtly exotic, ripe and expressive nose offers up notes of dried yellow-fleshed fruit aromas that include apricot, peach and mango as well as pineapple and herbal tea notes. There is an attractive citrus character to the exceptionally rich and round, indeed even opulent flavors that manage to retain a reasonably good sense of detail on the lightly mineral-inflected finish that offers good persistence.
