Terroir: Domaine Jacques Prieur owns just under two acres of Grand Cru Musigny. This is one of the greatest terroirs in the world for Pinot Noir. The 25-acre vineyard sits high on the hillside overlooking the larger Grand Cru of Clos de Vougeot in the village of Chambolle-Musigny. Soil composition is very thin and made primarily of small stones. Drainage here is optimal.
Vinification: Grapes are hand harvested, strictly sorted and de-stemmed. The must will sit on the skins for 23 days prior to fermentation. The wine ages for a total of 16 months in oak barrels, located deep in the cellars of Domaine Jacques Prieur.
"(just racked) Medium red. Rich but ethereal aromas of red fruits, violet, spices, smoke and earth. Sweet and supple in the mouth, with lovely floral lift to frame and extend the fruit. A very young wine that finishes with lovely lingering perfume. Not a particularly gripping Musigny but already very expressive." 91-93 pts. -Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Mar.-Apr. 2009

Sweet, lightly-cooked dark cherry, rhubarb, resin, and vanilla on the nose of the Prieur 2007 Musignysubsequently fan out to saturate the palate, withovert notes of wood thankfully sublimated thanks tothe strength of the inherent character of this Pinotsraw materials. There is juicy, faintly tart persistence along with hints of chalk and peat and an overallsense of energy that call to mind 2008 (as a vintage, not especially the 2008 rendition of this particularwine!) and that along with this wines seamlesstexture convince me that here is a 2007 worthfollowing for at least 6-8 years.

An ultra elegant nose of pure violet, earth, stone and red pinot fruit that will probably quickly transform into a floral-dominated aromatic profile merges seamlessly into balanced, precise and minerality big-bodied flavors that possess a satin and silk mouth feel and a linear, intense and mouth coating finish that seemingly foes on for minutes. This is a strikingly pretty wine tht should age for years.
