Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes 2005

Domaine Jacques Prieur

Terroir: Domaine Jacques Prieur's 3.7 acre plot of Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes sits with an ideal southeast facing exposure. The soil is primarily of clay and limestone with average draining that leads to highly ripe grapes.

Vinification: Grapes are hand harvested, strictly sorted and destemmed. The must will sit on the skins for 12-14 hours prior to fermentation. The wine ages for a total of 16 months in oak barrels deep in the cellars of Domaine Jacques Prieur.

Additional Information

"Dried fruits, hazelnut and toasty oak on the nose, plus a whiff of caramelized banana. Powerful and tightly wound, with surprising acidity enlivening the flavors of peach, citrus peel, spices and minerals. This has terrific cut and persistence but will need a good six or seven years of cellaring. Martin Prieur compares this to the 2002 Combettes in aging potential and notes that this cuvee, from a large holding of 1.49 hectares, is becoming the calling card of the estate." 92+ points -Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar, Sept.-Oct. 2007
