Le Clos du Moulin à Vent 2013

Domaine Labruyere

Terroir: Domaine Labruyère owns approximately 35 acres of prime vineyards in Moulin à Vent. Le Clos du Moulin à Vent is sourced exclusively from the Le Clos du Moulin vineyard where vines are very densely planted in soils of granite and quartz. Vines here average 50 years old.

Vinification: Grapes are hand picked parcel by parcel as they reach phenolic ripeness and transported to the winery in small 25kg crates to avoid damage. Upon arrival the grapes are sorted twice prior to de-stemming. Vinification begins with a 20-day maceration at cool temperatures in stainless steel and concrete vats prior to aging in the cellars in oak cask.

This is a concentrated structured cru wine from a single vineyard. It has dark tannins and a dense spice character from the wood aging. The fruit is still developing to give the wine its potential richness. Drink this firmly structured wine from 2018. This walled vineyard is wholly owned by producer Edouard Labruyre, making it a monopole.

"The 2013 Moulin--Vent Le Clos du Moulin underwent double sorting, was fully-de-stemmed with no carbonic maceration, and aged for 15 months in 10% new barrels, the remainder one-year old. I has a refined bouquet with pure dark cherries and blackcurrant notes, a touch of orange blossom in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy, ripe red berry fruit, well-judged acidity, and a silky smooth finish. This is very seductive, though the price is steep compared to its peers."
