El Coto Real Reserva is a special winemakers selection only produced in the very finest vintages.
Terroir: Mainly Tempranillo, small percentages of Mazuelo and Garnacha Tinta. Grapes from our vines located in Rioja Alta. Very old vineyards with a great potential for quality. The vineyard Los Cuartos Viejos in Cenicero is a good example.
Vinification: Tempranillo, Garnacha and Graciano grapes are handpicked, and meticulously sorted prior to vinification at the winery. The juice sees extended skin contact and a cool vinification in order to extract, flavor, balance and structure prior to aging. The wine is aged in the cellars of El Coto for a period of 22 months in a combination of French and American oak followed by an additional 24 months in bottle prior to release.
"Altogether, the vineyards prospered satisfactorily, in tune with a normal cycle, although with earlier than usual budding, flowering and setting, due to the high temperatures, which also resulted in earlier ripening. The wine is intense cherry red in colour. Fine toasted aromas (cocoa, vanilla, English pipe tobacco), with hints of ripe red berries and the subtle nuances of reduction. On the palate, round and supple, with excellent complexity of red berry fruit and fine toasted hints of oakiness. Long and elegant finish." -El Coto de Rioja

"Complex and expressive, this elegant red is rich with black plum, licorice, mineral, smoke and floral notes, all beautifully balanced, fresh and long on the palate. Still young and lively. Drink now through 2015."

"Dark red with a fading rim. Ripe, oak-spiced cherry and dark berry aromas offer a complex bouquet of vanilla, baking spices and incense. Bitter cherry and plum on the palate, complicated by toasty oak spices and framed by supple tannins. A classic rendition of Rioja, with impressive earthy complexity and depth."

"Youre going to like this masculine, well-oaked blend of 80% Tempranillo with 10% each Graciano and Garnacha. Its got modern touches but a lot of tradition as well. The wine is rich and round, with tobacco, coffee, chocolate and earth creating depth and character. With fine mouthfeel and a solid finish, you can drink now or hold a few more years."
