This full-bodied red opens with aromas of ripe black-skinned fruit, cassis and a whiff of cedar. The robust palate offers mature black plum, ground pepper and clove alongside austere, rather astringent tannins that grip the finish. Drink 20182025.

Dark ruby. Ripe, rich cola, faded flowers, underbrush and plums on the penetrating nose. Then spicier and more floral in the mouth, delivering bright red and black fruit flavors that linger long on the risingly tannic but not astringent aftertaste. Strikes me as one of the best Sagrantinos ever made by Lungarotti.

Aromatic, with spice and medicinal herb notes, this fresh, medium-bodied red offers dried cherry and cranberry fruit, accented by loamy earth and smoke notes. Offers a lasting, grippy finish. Drink now through 2023.

Congratulations to the Lungarotti family for producing a standout expression of one of Italy's most notoriously difficult grapes. The 2010 Montefalco Sagrantino is a terrific wine that is lush, rich and beautifully intense. The bouquet reveals thick layers of dark fruit, spice, tobacco and leather. The variety's trademark tannins definitely give structure and power at the back, but those tannins have also been masterfully managed thanks to 24 months of barrique.
