Produced only in the best years, Nino Negri's flagship wine 5 Stelle Sfursat di Valtellina is made from the regions finest selections of Chiavennasca (Nebbiolo).
Terroir: Sfursat “5 Stelle” is sourced from estate vineyards in the higher elevations of the Inferno, Grumello and Valgella sub-zones sitting on southeast exposures at elevations over 1200 feet. Vines are densely planted and tended using the archetto variation of the Guyot system, which further limits yields.
Vinification: Nino Negri limits harvest to only 25% of the total crop thus ensuring that only the highest quality fruit makes its way to the winery. Upon arrival the sorted bunches are placed into wooden crates where they will sit until the new year when they are naturally dry. The juice is macerated and fermented in stainless steel prior to aging over a period of 18-24 months in Allier oak. 33,000 bottles produced.
The 2007 5 Stelle is dark in the glass with a nose of exotic spice and dried fruit. On the palate the wine is rich, powerful and layered. Cedar, cocoa, pepper combine with dried cherry, fig and prune leading up to a long yet firm finish.

"Rich and firm, with polished oak, juicy acidity and floral, euca- lyptus and herbal notes adding an aromatic edge to the flavors of strawberry and cherry pte de fruit, sweet smoke, roasted plum and anise. Though graceful overall, this features a powerful, mineral-tinged finish. Best from 2014 through 2024."
"Sfursat 5 Stelle 07 once again took Three glasses for its proverbial elegance, complex nose of bottled cherries and red-fruits jam and austere, full, perfectly balanced palate."

"The 2007 Sfursat 5 Stelle is a drop-dead, gorgeous wine laced with dark red fruit, licorice, new leather and French oak. All of the elements meld together with notable grace in this rich, expansive 5 Stelle. The fragrant, silky fruit flows through to an enveloping, generous finish. This is another superb effort from Nino Negri. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2022."
