Nino Negri 'Vigneto Fracia' Valtellina Superiore DOCG 2013
Terroir: The Nino Negri Vigneto Fracia is produced from the estate vineyard of the same name. This 16 acre steep, terraced vineyard sits high on the south facing hillside in the commune of Chiuro within the Valgella subzone. Special clones and vinestocks have been selected and densely planted at over 12,000 plants per acre. Soils are poor consisting primarily of sand and granite gravel.
Vinification: The Vigneto Fracia ripens later than the rest of the region with harvest typically conducted in mid to late October. Selection is strict in the vineyard and grapes are sorted again after arrival at the winery. The must is macerated for 8 days and then aged for 16-20 months in small French oak casks.

Bright garnet with brick red highlights in the glass; concentrated aromas of dried flowers, violet and wild rose to the fore, spices and hints of blackberry jam. Dry, warm, full- flavored palate with an elegant finish of ripe plum and lingering bitter almond.

The 2013 Valtellina Superiore Vigneto Fracia is gorgeous. Deep, fleshy and resonant on the palate, the 2013 possesses striking depth and notable pedigree. There is a wonderful sense of breadth that runs through the 2013. Sweet cherry, cinnamon, orange peel, dried rose petal and mint all flesh out in an expressive Valtellina Nebbiolo that hits all the right notes. All the elements fall into place effortlessly.

Spicy aromas of clove, nutmeg and anise combine in the glass along with scents of baked plum, violet and aromatic herb. The tense palate offers dried black cherry, cranberry, cedar and sage along with a hint of fig. Tensed close-grained tannins and a backbone of firm acidity provide the framework.
