Stephane Aviron Fleurie Domaine de la Madrière 2015

Terroir: Fleurie is one of the top crus in Beaujolais producing wines of deep fruit and great structure. Stéphane Aviron’s Fleurie is sourced from a family owned hillside vineyard on the western side of the appellation. Exposure on these steep slopes face south and southeast with soils of loose clay and limestone.

Vinification: Grapes are handpicked and sorted upon arrival at the winery. The must is macerated in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats for 12-15 days and then aged for 12-14 months in a combination of new and one-or-two-year old barriques.

Brilliant ruby. Smoke-accented dark berries, candied licorice, cola and a hint of violet on the deeply perfumed nose. Sappy, fleshy and broad in the mouth, offering lush boysenberry and bitter cherry flavors that show no rough edges and take a sweeter turn with air. In an ample but energetic style, delivering a very long, blue-fruit-driven finish and fine-grained, building tannins.

This light-bodied red offers glazed raspberry, orange peel and currant notes beaming across the palate, with hints of herb, cherry and mineral lingering into the lightly tannic finish. Drink now through 2020.
