Stephane Aviron Morgon Cote du Py 2015

Terroir: The Morgon Cote du Py is Stéphane Aviron's most structured, earthy wine, and can age wonderfully for as much as ten years. The grapes are sourced from the slopes of an 1150-foot inactive volcano that is regarded as one of the top terroirs in all of Beaujolais. Vines face due south on a well pitched hillside of pour sandy soil.

Vinification: Grapes are vinified separately until time for the final blending and bottling. The must is macerated in temperature controlled stainless steel vats for 12-15 days and then aged for 12 months in a combination of new and used oak casks.

Bright violet. Dark berries, cherry pit and licorice on the expansive, spice-accented nose. Open-knit and fleshy in style, offering bitter cherry and cassis flavors and a mineral nuance that emerges with air. A subtle floral pastille note builds on the youthfully tannic finish, which hangs on with resonating dark berry character and strong tenacity.

This licorice-tinged red offers juicy red plum, black cherry and mocha flavors, bound together by firm, integrated acidity and fleshy tannins. Earl Grey tea and floral accents drive into the mineral-tinged finish. Drink now through 2022.
