Glazebrook

About

Glazebrook

Glazebrook wines pay homage to Garry Glazebrook, the landowner who founded the original company in 1981. Today, Glazebrook is all about location, location, location. It is an amalgamation of our unique cool coastal climate, growing season, harvest and winemaking to create an expression of harmonious perfection. The coordinates 041°S 174°E represent where these elements collide to create our award-winning wine. They come together here in this incredible place enabling our specialist winemaking team to create delicious and exciting wines ready for sharing with friends. Our vision is to connect others to our special place through the beauty and magic captured in our Glazebrook wines. Grown and crafted where stars align, Glazebrook is a destination found in every glass.

The Winemaker

Alex Roper

Alex joined the team at Mission Estate Winery in 2007, whilst studying for a Bachelor of Wine Science. Spending his weekends pouring wine for guests in the Cellar Door, Alex developed a unique understanding of what people looked for and enjoyed most in wine and was able to apply this to his studies. In 2011, after completing his degree and gaining experience working vintages for a number of other wineries, Alex re-joined the Mission team, working side by side with Mission’s Chief Winemaker, Paul Mooney. The opportunity to work with Paul has ensured that the heritage of Mission’s winemaking continues to be passed on, and reflected, in the signature style of wines being crafted at Mission Estate. In 2016 Alex was named ‘North Island’s Top Young Winemaker’ at the New Zealand Young Winemaker competition. In 2024, Alex celebrates his 14th Vintage with Mission, now as Winemaker. He is proud to continue the tradition and uphold the legacy of Mission Estate’s long winemaking history. He also steers Mission’s commitment to sustainability through our environmental management and sustainable programmes. Alex was promoted to Head Winemaker in 2024 after Paul Mooney retired.
