Beaune 1er Cru Champ-Pimont Blanc 2016

Domaine Jacques Prieur

Terroir: The 5.6 acre Domaine Jacques Prieur parcel of 1er Cru Champ-Pimont sits on the slope overlooking the town of Beaune just west of the village. The vineyard faces due east and produces both red and white wines of superior quality. The soils range from clay based in the lower slopes to mineral rich (iron) gravel soils further up the the slope.

Vinification: Grapes are hand harvested strictly sorted and destemmed. The must will sit on the skins for 24 hours prior to fermentation. The red and white Champ-Pimont both undergo 100% malolactic fermentation and 17 months of aging in oak barrels.

Additional Information

2016, 26th-28th April: Devastating frost episode!
After a very mild winter and a warm spring weather in the second half of April, the bud break was advanced but the frost with high level or humidity at the end of the month destroyed the parcels with the best exposition. After the frost the vine was developing slowly. Acceleration in growth and the maturity of grapes were possible thanks to very warm and dry summer, with ripening that started quickly by mid-August. The harvest started on 20th September and the sanitary condition of the vineyard was perfect.
The overall quality of the wines is not affected by these weather disturbances.

Luminous green gold with scintillating silver reflections. Precise and very subtle aromas with slightly toasted notes evolving into flint and spicy notes. Tasty, generous, with crunchy lemon-flavored notes on the palate. Point of salinity on the finish with splendid retro-olfaction.

"A whiff of the exotic can be found on the aromas of white peach, floral, pear, citrus and mineral reduction. There is a bit more mid-palate volume to the round yet reasonably precise middle weight flavors that coat the palate with dry extract on the slightly more complex and persistent finale. "

"The 2016 Beaune 1er Cru Champs Pimont Blanc is 100% matured in foudres. It has another slightly resinous but clean and fresh bouquet with pleasant grilled walnut scents emerging with time. The palate is well balanced with a fine line of acidity, not a complex Beaune but there is an appealing roundness on the tropical-tinged finish. Drink over the next six years."

"(almost 13% natural alcohol, as the crop was cut 80% by frost): Bright yellow. Aromas of peach, apricot, lemon and spices. Fresh and savory in the mouth, showing a dusty lemon zest character that carries through to a persistent finish. Firm but not austere."
    Grade: 88-90 points
