Sancerre Exception 2010

Domaine Pascal Jolivet

Terroir: Situated 125 miles south of Paris, the Sancerre landscape undulates at an altitude between 650 and 1,300 feet. The Loire River on the Eastern side of the hilly environment creates a relatively temperate microclimate for the wines. Pascal Jolivet Sancerre Exception is the Loire’s equivalent of a Grand Cru. The wine is sourced from three vineyards that share the terroir characteristics to produce Sauvignon Blanc of exceptional quality. Sources are Chêne Marchand in the village of Bué, Mont Damné in Chavignol and Clos Roy in Crézancy.

Vinification: Pascal Jolivet practices a minimalist winemaking style, allowing nature to take its course. Each of his white wines is produced using exclusively native yeasts, and entirely in temperature stainless steel. All parcels are vinified separately until final blending and bottling.

"Framed by a warm stone edge, the core of lemon curd, chive and gooseberry flavors sits in reserve for now, while nicely embedded acidity stretches out on the finish. The just needs brief cellaring to open up."

"An impressive blend from some of the top vineyards in Sancerre, this is a rounded, smooth, almost toasty wine. It has flavors of spice as well as green and citrus fruits. Full in the mouth and intense, age this for at least two years."
