The Estate Riesling is a Gutswein, the excellent entry-level in the VDP quality hierarchy of wines of designated origin. Grapes come entirely from the estate’s own vineyards.
Terroir: This wine comes from the younger parcels of two VDP.Grosse Lage® vineyards (equivalent of the Burgundian “Grand Cru”): Bockstein and Saarburger, both known as top vineyards in the Mosel thanks to their exceptional terroir (steep slope, south/south west exposure, old vines, slate soil). The two vineyards have a different color of slate which affects the characteristic of the wine: The Bockstein vineyard is made of grey slate which gives soft, round , floral character in the wine. The Saarburger vineyard is made of red slate which produces wine that is more steely and sharper.
Vinification: The wine was fermented in temperature-controlled tanks, and the fermentation stopped to leave 19 g/l of residual sugar. The wine is aged for about 3 months on the lees in stainless steel vats.
Delightful, crisp, off-dry wine, light in body yet packed with zingy grapefruit and floral flavor. A touch of natural sweetness is balanced by mouthwatering acidity, while the light alcohol ensures versatility: the wine makes a refreshing aperitif as well as an ideal partner for spicy foods.
