Faugères 2014

Terroir: Faugères is a small appellation located on the somewhat inland on the Mediterranean coast to the west of Montpelier and Nimes.

Vinification: This blend of Syrah, Mourvèdre and Carignan is vinified in a combination of 10% tank, 30% large nuetral oak casks and 60% oak barrels. 30% of the oak is new.

Additional Information

The beautiful ripeness of Syrah is very well balanced due to magnificient tannins of the finest Mourvèdre, allied with a minerality, most characteristic of the Faugères terroirs. The wine is concentrated, voluptuous and elegant with beautiful freshness and great finesse. Its very strong mineral character shares Cade wood and blackberry-pie scent added to floral aroma violet.

Smoked earth, currants, cured meats and spices all emerge from the rich, full-bodied 2014 Faugères. A blend of 60% Syrah, 25% Mourvdre and 15% Carignan, aged mostly in demi-muids, it has a smoking mid-palate, a ripe, layered textured and a big finish. Like in 2013, it's another hidden gem in this lineup.

Fresh red plum, kirsch and boysenberry notes give a focused, tangy profile to this muscular, full-bodied red, with tea, floral and mineral aromas adding interest through the grippy, spice-infused finish. Drink now through 2023.
