Falkenberg Shiraz 2014

Hewitson

Falkenberg Shiraz is Hewitson’s premier Shiraz cuvée. The grapes are carefully harvested and fermented then matured in French oak. The wine is incredibly powerful and showcases Barossa Valley Shiraz at its best. While accessible now this wine will reward careful cellaring.

Farming: minimum drip irrigation, permanent sward between rows, hand pruned
Vinification: crushed and destemmed; on skins three weeks after cold soak/remontage

Additional Information

Deep crimson red with a bright purple hue. Concentrated red fruits go on and on. Concentrated red forest berries. With velvety fruit and oak tannins. Eventually merge with fresh, clean acidity.

Despite a similar barrel regime to the 2013, the 2014 Falkenberg Vineyard Private Cellar Shiraz seems less oaky, with more fruit spice and berry fruit than the 2013. Red berries and cherries pick up hints of peppery spice and vanilla on the long, silky finish. Not a huge blockbuster Barossa Shiraz, the 2014 Falkenberg is more about balance, elegance and class.

A floral grace note of rose petal lends aromatic lift and an elegant profile to the firm, focused core of cherry and plum flavors. A savory mineral accent lingers on the fine and focused finish. Drink now through 2030.
