Founded in 1781, Vidal-Fleury not only is the Rhône’s oldest continuing grower/négociant firm, but it also secured an international following very quickly.Thomas Jefferson’s visit in 1787 was its first contact with the United States; he called the wines “ justly celebrated”.
The elaboration of Vidal-Fleury’s wines consists of four separate operations – the vineyard, winemaking, ageing and bottling. The superb origins of the grapes and the patience taken in maturing are what make the quality of Vidal-Fleury wines according to Winemaker Antoine Dupre.
.
Terroir: Our wine comes from vines cultivated on the right bank of the Rhône, on gravelly slopes and clay-limestone terraces. The climate is Mediterranean, influenced by the mistral. The grapes are Viognier, Clairette, Grenache blanc and Roussane.
Vinification: Slow and gentle direct pressing to preserve the delicacy of the juice aromas. Alcoholic fermentation at low temperatures (16-18°C). No malolactic fermentation. Aging on lees in stainless steel tanks for 6 months.
Pale yellow robe with green reflections. The nose is floral and fruity, characterized by orange blossom and lifted by hints of citrus and apricot. A pleasing freshness at the onset. A touch of minerality counterbalances the silkiness of the palate, creating a beautiful harmony. The long finish allows us to savor these delicate floral notes for a few more seconds.
Pairing: Pairs well with tapas, sardine rillettes, and other dishes for a refined appetizer. Also complements tarragon chicken, cod with chorizo crust, and sheep cheese
About the Vintage: The vintage of 2022 experienced a fairly mild and dry winter, with warmth arriving early in the Rhône Valley, promoting vigorous vine growth in spring. The summer faced notable drought, but well-timed rains in mid-August provided the necessary water to produce high-quality grapes, rich in sugar and aromas.
