Formentini
Formentini Sauvignon Collio DOC 2023

About
In 1520 the Formentini family, Venetian counts, purchased the castle in the town of San Floriano del Collio, the highest hilltop village in northeastern Friuli, which sits in the heart of the modern day Collio appellation. Today, there is a modern winery located opposite the castle, which is still owned by the Formentini family. At Formentini, winemaker Pietro Bertè manages 30 growers who have been supplying the winery for decades. The focus of the winery is on varietal-driven, aromatic whites typical of the area, such as Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio.
Terroir
Unique border country, with its thousand years of history and witness to great battles and formidable renewal. Situated in the north-east of Italy on the border with Slovenia, it stretches between the Isonzo and Iudrio rivers with its nearly 1,500 hectares of vineyards.
The soil that distinguishes the area is the Ponca, the marl and sandstone composition, which recalls its marine origins millions of years ago. The great capacity for drainage makes of Ponca a soil particularly suited to the cultivation of vines, ensuring ideal ripening of the grapes and a noteworthy minerality in its wines both on the nose and palate.
Vinification
Cold maceration in absence of oxygen followed by a brief passage in 250L barrels
