About

Podere Granaio is located on the hills at 360 m a.s.l. between Castellina in Chianti and San Donato in Poggio around the suggestive village, whose first records date back to 1500, always been a point of reference for the area. The soil was composed from Alberese, a very rocky, skeletal soil and very difficult to cultivate. The vines here are forced to sink their roots deep into the rock. This means that even in difficult and dry years the plants always manage not to suffer, giving us balanced wines with a tasty tannic texture. The cooler microclimate and the geological nature of the soils make our Chianti Classico, produced since 1969, an authentic expression of freshness and elegance

Terroir

The terroir includes alberese, a calcareous marl that is very difficult to cultivate. The vines here, in order to obtain the necessary nourishment, are forced to sink their
roots deep into the rock. The production district stretches from Castellina in Chianti to San Donato in Poggio

Vinification

Traditional red wine vinification partly in steel tanks and partly in concrete
tanks. Fermentation takes place with native yeasts with frequent pumping over to enhance the floral bouquet and elegance. A part of the wine remains in contact with the skins for several months.

Excellent freshness in this savory, medium-bodied red. Notes of sour cherries, raw mushrooms and tomato leaves follow through to a juicy palate with lightly grainy tannins. Drink now or hold.

A youthful magenta, the 2021 Chianti Classico Granaio is juicy and inviting with primary fruit of mixed berries, fresh flowers, fresh forest herbs, and wet stone. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins and a silky texture, it has a juicy mid-palate and a clean, gravelly finish. It’s a charming and very open wine for drinking over the next few years.
