About
Great specialty for several generations of the Hugel family, who wrote the law on Late Harvests. These wines made from overripe grapes on the vine are harvested well after the classic harvest and only in prime years. The action of noble rot (botrytis cinerea) gives them an almost unlimited ability to age. They are part of the elite of the greatest wines of France. A wine of extraordinary power and longevity to be enjoyed religiously for itself on a special occasion.

Terroir
LATE HARVEST Gewurztraminer all come from the oldest plots of Domaine HUGEL, located in the heart of the Grand Cru Sporen of which we exploit the majority of the 4.84 hectares of the original terroir.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand. Small containers are used to transport the grapes to the presses which are fed by gravity, without pumping or other handling. After settling for a few hours, the musts are transported to tuns or vats where fermentation will take place with temperature control (from 18 to 24°C). A single racking before winter when the wine clarifies naturally. Light coarse filtration before bottling in spring then aging in bottles in our cellars until it is put on sale.
