About

The Marchesi di Barolo estate encompasses approximately 430 acres of vineyards in the Langhe, some of the finest in Piedmont, including the prestigious Cannubi cru. The cellars are located in the village of Barolo, overlooking the Renaissance castle of the Marchesi Falletti di Barolo. Barolo as we know it today was first made in the early 19th century by the Marchese Carlo Tancredi Falletti di Barolo and his wife, Giulia.

Terroir

The grapes intended for the production of Barolo Riserva come from the most suitable vineyards located among the various hills of the Denomination; the soils are predominantly calcareous-clayey with variable percentages of chalk and quartz sand. These areas are able to ensure a notable structure and a broad bouquet that last over time.

Vinification

The grapes are rigorously harvested by hand and a selection of the best bunches is made already in the vineyard. Once it arrives in the cellar, it is destemmed and pressed and then delicately conveyed into the stainless steel tanks. Here the alcoholic fermentation begins at a controlled temperature. At the same time, maceration on the skins takes place, where all the noble components of the grape – colour, aromas and tannins – are extracted. Maceration lasts approximately 15 days during which the operations of pumping the must over the pomace cap favor this extraction.

Tasting Notes

The color is intense garnet red, gradually permeated by brick-colored reflections over the years. The scent is intense with clear hints of violet, rose, spices, cinnamon, nutmeg, which over time evolve into notes of tobacco, leather and truffle. On the palate it is elegant, dry, austere and velvety, with abundant and enveloping tannins, well expressed and pleasant.

Food Pairing

It is the ideal companion for egg pasta, tajarin and ravioli with sauces such as game ragout and truffles. It also goes well with red meats, roasted or braised, game and venison. Finally, Riserva della Casa pairs magnificently with sheep's or goat's cheeses or mature hard cheeses.

This red is beginning to hit its stride, featuring fading cherry and berry fruit, mushroom and woodsy notes, menthol and iron accents. Still firm and austere on the finish, yet the excellent length indicates its full potential. Best from 2025 through 2045

This opens with aromas of black-skinned berry, eucalyptus and a whiff of cedar. The savory, balanced palate offers dried black cherry, clove and tobacco alongside fine-grained tannins and firm acidity. Drink 2021–2030.

Beautifully ripe and fresh red-cherry and sliced-strawberry aromas, leading to a palate that offers a svelte, juicy and elegant core of fine and fresh strawberries and red cherries with a juicy thread of acidity. Fresh and elegant. Drink or hold.
