About

The Marchesi di Barolo estate encompasses approximately 430 acres of vineyards in the Langhe, some of the finest in Piedmont, including the prestigious Cannubi cru. The cellars are located in the village of Barolo, overlooking the Renaissance castle of the Marchesi Falletti di Barolo. Barolo as we know it today was first made in the early 19th century by the Marchese Carlo Tancredi Falletti di Barolo and his wife, Giulia.

Terroir

Serragrilli is a gentle hill in the municipality of Neive facing south-west, where
the Nebbiolo bunches receive the sun’s rays until late in the evening. The soil
has a uniform structure and composition, generally compact, made up of clay
and limestone covered by a mantle of quartz sand and very fine silt. The
vineyard extends across the upper part of the hill, until it reaches the crest.

Vinification

The grapes, harvested exclusively by hand, are taken to the cellar and quickly destemmed and then delicately pressed. Fermentation with maceration takes place at a controlled temperature and frequent pumping over allows the must to be enriched with all the polyphenolic compounds present in the skins. At the end of fermentation, once an optimal extraction level has been reached, we proceed with racking

Tasting Notes

Always recognized as an area with a high viticultural vocation, Serragrilli produces a very pleasant Barbaresco. The color is ruby red with typical garnet reflections. The nose is broad, with floral hints of wild violet, blackberry berries and delicate spicy notes of cinnamon and nutmeg. On the palate it is firm and full-bodied, with a harmonious and balanced structure, with sweet tannins, never too evident, which ensure excellent longevity.

Food Pairing

It is an ideal companion for typical Langhe appetizers, pasta and agnolotti with tasty sauces, red meats, roasts, braised and boiled meats, medium-aged hard cheeses.

A fragrant version, exuding cherry, rose, tar and licorice aromas and flavors. Supple and harmonious, this expands on the palate to the long, complex aftertaste, adding underbrush and iron notes to the mix. The proverbial iron fist in a velvet glove. Best from 2026 through 2040.
