About

The Marchesi di Barolo estate encompasses approximately 430 acres of vineyards in the Langhe, some of the finest in Piedmont, including the prestigious Cannubi cru. The cellars are located in the village of Barolo, overlooking the Renaissance castle of the Marchesi Falletti di Barolo. Barolo as we know it today was first made in the early 19th century by the Marchese Carlo Tancredi Falletti di Barolo and his wife, Giulia.

Terroir

Cannubi is the prestigious long and gradually rising hill located in the center of the Barolo denomination. The soils, from the Serravallian and Tortonian periods, are predominantly clayey-limestone, characterized by the conspicuous presence of Sant’Agata marl. These particular soils give the wine unique characteristics in terms of structure, finesse, elegance and longevity.

Vinification

The grapes are rigorously harvested by hand and a selection of the best bunches is made already in the vineyard. Once it arrives in the cellar, it is selectively destemmed and delicately pressed. Alcoholic fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature: a range of 24-26°C is maintained to preserve all the aromatic potential characteristic of the specific terroir. Through repeated delestage and pumping over, we proceed with a maceration of 15-18 days aimed at the gradual and maximum extraction of the noble polyphenolic part of the skins

Tasting Notes

The color is deep ruby red with characteristic garnet reflections. On the nose the bouquet is balsamic, with notes of small dehydrated red fruits, wild rose and spices that are linked to a fan-shaped finish between cocoa bean and vanilla. The taste is full, with a silky and enveloping tannin; the notable and elegant body leads to a long spicy finish that makes this a great Barolo.

Food Pairing

It pairs perfectly with traditional Langhe egg pasta, Tajarin, meat ravioli, red meat dishes, boiled meats, braised meats and game. It is an ideal companion for sheep and goat cheeses and mature hard cheeses.

Though marked by new oak, this red also boasts generous cherry and raspberry fruit, with hints of eucalyptus and tar. Elegant overall, yet will need time to absorb the oak. Vanilla-tinged finish. Best from 2026 through 2042

Spiced cherries macerating in their juices with candied roses and cedar aromas fill the glass of this forward and generous Barolo. Fruit of the forest preserves with licorice, anise and clove drive the palate as rounded tannins offer a generosity and approachability to the wine today. Drink now

Beautiful perfumes and fresh flowers come out of the glass with undertones of sandalwood. It’s medium- to full-bodied with fine tannins and a polished and seductive finish. Drinkable but better with a few years of bottle age
