About

The Marchesi di Barolo estate encompasses approximately 430 acres of vineyards in the Langhe, some of the finest in Piedmont, including the prestigious Cannubi cru. The cellars are located in the village of Barolo, overlooking the Renaissance castle of the Marchesi Falletti di Barolo. Barolo as we know it today was first made in the early 19th century by the Marchese Carlo Tancredi Falletti di Barolo and his wife, Giulia.

Terroir

Coste di Rose is a prestigious Barolo hill facing east and characterized by a notable slope which favors excellent ripening of the grapes. The soils, medium calcareous, are rich in quartz sand and very fine silt which give the grapes – and therefore the wine – intense floral characteristics.

Vinification

The grapes are rigorously harvested by hand and a selection of the best bunches is made already in the vineyard. Once it arrives in the cellar, it is selectively destemmed and delicately pressed. Alcoholic fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature: a range of 24-26°C is maintained to preserve all the aromatic potential characteristic of the specific terroir. Through repeated delestage and pumping over, we proceed with a maceration of 15-18 days aimed at gradually maximum extraction of the noble polyphenolic part of the skins

Tasting Notes

The color is bright ruby red with delicate garnet notes. The scent is intense, notes of dog rose and peony prevail, together with a crunchy spiciness of black pepper and cloves; the finish of delicate woody notes makes it a Barolo of great elegance. On the palate it is broad and velvety, with a refined structure in which the tannin blends perfectly.

Food Pairing

It is the ideal companion for typical Langhe appetizers including raw meat, vegetable flans, eggs with truffles. It is also excellent with tajarin, roasts, sheep and goat cheeses and medium-aged hard cheeses.

Rich, boasting cherry, plum, spice and tar flavors. Picks up a touch of vanilla as this builds to the dusty finish. Needs time, yet has all the components. Fresh and long. Best from 2026 through 2043.

Aromas of Mascara cherries leap out of the glass quickly followed by sweet baking spices, candied rose petals, and sandalwood. Rounded on the palate, the lush and juicy mixed-berry fruits meld well with new oak flavors that give a shine and polish to the vibrant wine. Drink now–2040.

A medium-bodied red with chewy tannins and spice and citrus undertones. Some dried strawberries. It’s a little austere but it should soften with age. Try after 2025.
