About

Settled in Meursault since the 19th century, Domaine Jacques Prieur today is comprised of 21 hectares (52 acres) of vineyards (11ha/27ac in Pinot Noir and 10ha/25ac in Chardonnay). The estate owns almost one third of all Burgundian Grands Crus Appellations: Montrachet, Chevalier-Montrachet, Corton-Charlemagne, Corton-Bressandes, Echézeaux, Clos Vougeot, Musigny, Chambertin and Chambertin Clos de Bèze. 14 Premiers Crus complete this collection: Puligny-Montrachet Les Combettes, Meursault Perrières, Meursault Charmes, Meursault Santenots, Volnay Clos des Santenots (Monopole), Volnay Champans, Pommard Les Charmots, Beaune Champs Pimont (Chardonnay & Pinot Noir), Beaune Clos de la Féguine (Monopole, Chardonnay & Pinot Noir), Beaune Grèves (Chardonnay & Pinot Noir) and Chambolle-Musigny Combe d’Orveau. Finally, the winery also possesses 1 iconic Village Appellation: Meursault Clos de Mazeray (Monopole).

Terroir

A large plot with the evocative name of “Les Champs au pied du Mont” (or “The Fields at the Foot of the Mountain”), located on the slope overlooking the outskirts of Beaune. This vineyard, facing due east, produces both red and white wine. Chardonnay is planted on the upper part of the slope with chalky soil that gives its mineral characteristics and unique personality. There is also often a salty flavor on the aftertaste.

Vinification

Whole bunches of grapes were handpicked into small crates and pressed in a pneumatic winepress. Alcoholic fermentation and ageing entirely in oak barrels 100% malolactic fermentation. Duration of barrel ageing :16 months

Tasting Notes

COLOR: Attractive ruby-red with a light garnet disk. NOSE: Attractive and complex, with both floral notes (violet, rose, flower petals) and spicy black fruit. PALATE: Tasty and juicy. Ripe, digestible fruit. Ripe, smooth, dense tannins.
