10-Year Tawny

Churchills Port

A good 10 Years Old Tawny Port should have the complexity of age, and retain some freshness and acidity of youth. This is the art of blending a Port Wine with an average age of ten years.
Churchill's 10 years old tawny is a classic example. Produced from its own top rated grade "A" Douro estates, this blend combines the minerality of terroir and the purity of the fruit, while acquiring a nutty complexity from ageing in oak casks.

Terroir: The grapes come from the old vineyards at our estates located in the Cima Corgo Sub-region of Douro.

A field blend of many varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Tinto Cão, Tinta Barroca, Touriga Franca and Tinta Francisca.

Additional Information

A rich brick red color with flashes of amber, elegant and subtle, complex on the nose, with expressive notes of dried fruits combined with hints of orange peel, full on the mouth, showing an excellent vinosity and freshness, allowing it to finish long and persistent.

Warm fruitcake, brown bread and mulled raisin notes give this a broad, almost languid feel, but there are hints of singed walnut and clove in the background. Drink now.

"A tawny port from Portugal will shines through at dessert. This one shows nutty notes with spices, orange peel and dried fruits. They also sell a Port Experience set that includes a dry white port, tawny and reserve port selections in smaller 187ml sizes. Its a smart assemblage if you want to experiment with different dessert wines."

"This is a Tawny to which you need to devote some time, because it takes a good long while for it to totally unfurl (disrobe?) in your glass, after which its gorgeous to behold; gorgeous enough that its nearly as good as 30 Year Tawnies Ive had which cost nearly three time as much."

"Amber-red color with pure aromas and flavors of fig, raisin, prune and roasted hazelnuts. So exceptionally smooth and sweet, the quality masks the presence of high alcohol. Rich, slick, long and luxurious. Caramel and candy goodness on the finish."

"The nose of this Tawny Port combines aromas of both fresh and dried fruits such as apricots along with a fruitcake spices. The palate is absolutely strewn with apricot, nectarine, roasted hazelnut and chestnut flavors as well as continued fruitcake spice characteristics. Hints of caramel and toffee emerge on the finish which has prodigious length and depth. Pair this Tawny Port with all sorts of sweet deserts or even better a cheese course.

There are several things that most impress me about this wine. The complexity and layers of flavor from the first sip to the end of the finish are one. Another is the overall balance of this wine which is simply perfect; its sweet to be sure but just the right amount. Along those lines this Tawny Port has good weight but is practically lithe in the manner it dances across your tongue and gently clings to the back of your throat. This is a knockout of a Tawny Port that I highly recommend for anyone with any level of interest in this style of wine. With the Holiday Season fast approaching this wine would be a tremendous choice to serve as an impressive crescendo at the end of fabulous meal with Family and Friends."

Ten years in oak casks have endowed this Port with many secondary aromas, like toasted nut and mocha, that complement gorgeous flavors of caramelized orange. Its mellowed tannins give it a satiny texture.
