Late Bottled Vintage 2005

Late Bottled Vintage has become one of the most popular styles of Port these days. It offers near-Vintage quality at premium Ruby prices.
Its popularity, however, has led to highly competitive pricing and a more commercial approach by many of the larger Port companies; most of these LBV’s have been cold treated and filtered and have no potential for ageing in bottle. As a result they deprive themselves of the richness, elegance and complexity usually found in a mature bottle-aged Port.

Terroir: Late Bottled Vintage Port is produced from the same Quintas, which make Churchill’s declared Vintage Ports, so the result is an LBV with real Vintage pedigree: excellent intensity of fruit and finesse.

Vinification: Vinified in traditional granite “lagares” or treading tanks, the carefully selected and hand-picked grapes are gently macerated and fermented to extract the very best of their potential juice whilst still retaining the required degree of residual sugar. Following the vintage the young LBV Ports are carefully tasted, selected and blended. The blended Port is then matured in large oak vats during 4 years where it softens, shedding its harsh tannins, but without losing its full bodied, rich fruit flavours. Finally after 4 years in wood it is bottled unfiltered into dark Vintage Port bottles and laid down to finish its maturation in our temperature conditioned cellars.

A field blend of many varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Tinto Cão, Tinta Barroca, Touriga Franca and Tinta Francisca.

Additional Information

A deep ruby color with a violet hue. On the nose, a seductive combination of blackberries and wild flowers, with an herbal background. Rich and complex on the palate, with fresh flavors of mint chocolate and cherry liqueur, finishing with excellent grip due to the firm tannins and well defined acidity.

"Refined and sumptuous, showing mature flavors of plum pudding, dried blackberry and raspberry, lifted by fresh acidity and supported by plenty of grip. The creamy finish offers luscious chocolate mousse notes, with hints of pepper."
