Terroir: The 5.6 acre Domaine Jacques Prieur parcel of 1er Cru Champ-Pimont sits on the slope overlooking the town of Beaune just west of the village. The vineyard faces due east and produces both red and white wines of superior quality. The soils range from clay based in the lower slopes to mineral rich (iron) gravel soils further up the the slope.
Vinification: Grapes are hand harvested strictly sorted and destemmed. The must will sit on the skins for 24 hours prior to fermentation. The red and white Champ-Pimont both undergo 100% malolactic fermentation and 17 months of aging in oak barrels.
"Pale, bright yellow. Rich but delicate aromas of stone fruits and flowers. Silky and fine-grained, with a hint of peach nicely supported by a firm spine of acidity and minerality; lovely subtle flavor intensity here. Classy wine from very pale soil"
"A discreet if not invisible touch of wood frames airy and quite cool aromas of citrus, white flowers and almost pungent stone notes that can also be found on the textured and soundly concentrated middle weight flavors that terminate in a tension-filled, precise and well-balanced finish. Lovely and fashioned in an understated style that should allow for 6 to 8 years of upside development potential."
