Summary
Terroir: Marziano Abbona's Pressenda vineyard is a 7.5 acre hillside site in the Monforte d'Alba commune of Barolo. The vineyard is situated at 1250 feet with an exposure to the south and vines averaging 25 to 35 years old. Soils are loose and made up primarily of clay and limestone. These loose soils produce a bold style Barolo with longer aging potential.
Vinification: Grapes are hand harvested and sorted upon arrival at the winery followed by a 7-8 day maceration in stainless steel tanks. They are then fermented in rotofermenters. After malolactic fermentation the wine is racked and aged for 12 months in French oak and then for an additional 24 months in large French casks.

"The 2007 Barolo Pressenda is bold, dark and beautiful. Sweet black cherries, menthol, spices and licorice all come together in this deep, satisfying Barolo. The Pressenda shows tremendous integrity in its fruit, serious length and fabulous overall balance. The muscular, powerful finish suggests it will drink well for a number of years, but first it needs a few years in the cellar. This is a fabulous effort."

"This wine announces its seriousness with its darkness and opacity of color and a big blast of fancy oak aroma, yet the proportions of fruit and oak are virtually perfect, providing a sense of natural balance. Although it density and drive indicate a long developmental trajectory for this wine, its integration and proportionality will enable consumers to enjoy it at many different stages of its development--which is an important virtue of the 2007 Barolos crafted by the most successful vintners"

"This is an especially delicious Barolo that relies on dark concentration and impressive aromatic intensity to make its point. Balsam notes of cola and root beer are set against bright fruit and spice. The wine's solid structure is enhanced by a soft, velvety finish."
