Summary
Marziano Abbona’s Barolo “Terlo Ravera” is sourced from the estate's four hectares of vines in the Terlo and Ravera vineyards.
Terroir: The Terlo vineyard is located in the commune of Barolo and its wine is characterized by earthiness. The Ravera vineyard is found in Novello and adds fragrance, fruit and softness to the blend. Vines average 33 years of age in each vineyard with yields of 70 quintals per hectare. Barolo “Terlo Ravera” was first bottled in 1990.
Vinification: Grapes from each vineyard are harvested by hand and vinified separately. Maceration on the skins occurs in roto-fermenters for 7-8 days prior to fermentation. After blending, the wine is aged for 12 months in 500L French oak tonneaux followed by an additional 24 months in 30HL Slovenian oak casks
Notes

"Though rich, this is also beefy, with black cherry, broth and tobacco notes. The tannins are firm, but there's plenty of flesh and ripe fruit for balance. Fine length."

"The 2007 Barolo Terlo Ravera is a little more reserved than the Pressenda. It comes across as rather inward, with lovely definition in its sweet red fruit, mint and floral notes. The Terlo Ravera impresses for its length and energy rather than for its sheer power. It, too, is dazzling, though, and should drink well for a number of years."

"Theres no question that 2007 was a great success for this fine producers Barolo bottlings, as this wine as well as the Pressenda were both clear standouts in the blind tastings. What is most appealing about this wine is that it offers an initial impression of opulence and juicy fruitiness, but then shows lots of little subtleties on closer scrutiny, plus impressive structure that is initially enshadowed by the sheer juiciness of the fruit. Wood notes are evident but quite restrained, and all of the wines major components are very well integrated. An excellent wine that displays all of the best characteristics of the vintage."

"Barolo Terlo Ravera opens with soft oak tones that still need time to integrate. But the great promise of this wine are its beautiful layers of ripe berry fruit, cassis, leather, chocolate and toasted coconut. The concentration is inky and thick and the finish is very long lasting."
